Revised 11/15/2020
You may have heard the terms F1,F2,F1b, or Multigens to refer to labradoodles, but what do these all mean? I hope this information will help you understand the generational classifications as described by the ALAA and WALA organizations a bit better. If you need more in depth details visit the ALAA and/or WALA grading pages on their websites. This explanation is meant to simplify and hopefully help you understand the different ways Australian Labradoodles are currently graded. Please note WALA uses the prefix LO, which means Labrador Origin, to all F1, F1b,F1bb, F2 generation descriptions.
Labradoodle Generations
Parents Offsprings are called"
are:
*Labrador Retriever x Poodle= First Generation Labradoodle F1 or LO F1
May or may not shed (varies)
Wala calls these dogs to be LO F1
ALAA calls these dogs to be F1
*F1(or LO F1) x Poodle= Labradoodle (backcross to poodle) F1b or LO F1b
Non to minimal shedding
Wala calls these dogs LO F1b
ALAA calls these dogs F1b
*(F1b or LO F1b) x Poodle= Labradoodle F1bb or LO F1bb
Remember WALA adds the prefix LO to all F1, F1b,F1bb, F2 generations of labrador retriever origin. For the sake of simplification I will not add the prefix below, but you get the idea.
**(F1,F1B,F1bb, F2) x (F1,F1b, F1bb)= F2 or LO F2
May or may not shed (varies).
ALAA considers these to be Multigen Labradoodles
WALA does not consider this generation to be
Multigenerational Labradoodles
*F2 (or higher) x F2 (or higher)= Multigenerational Labradoodle
